Driving Guide & Places To Go in Zakynthos

Zakynthos Town should be visited at least once during your stay. There are plenty of shops and restaurants and it’s here you’ll be able to stock up on local products as well as souvenirs. If you fancy a little more adventure, the ferry goes from the harbour to Kyllini on the mainland.

Kalamaki is the name of the town on the bay that is home to the island’s turtle colony and you can visit the turtle conservation centre to learn all about the fragile creatures and the efforts being made to protect them.

The cliffs at Keri make for a fabulous photo opportunity. They are pure white and drop into perfect azure seas. You can see more of the beautiful blue water in the so-called Blue Caves where the reflected light enhances the colours.

One of the enduring views of Zakynthos, seen in almost all the guide books and brochures, is the shipwreck on the beach at Cape Skinari. It’s not easy getting down to the beach and even harder on the climb back – consider taking a boat to see it or just look at it over the edge of the cliff.

Closest Airports for Zakynthos 

Olympus and Sky Express are the only operators to offer year round flights from Athens, Kithira and Kefalonia. There are many other flights from European destinations but all are seasonal. The airport is three miles from Zakynthos town centre and accessed along the Zakynthou Keriou Road.

In summer no flights can operate between the hours of darkness for fear of disturbing the nesting turtles on the nearby beach.
