Driving Guide & Places To Go in Rhodes

Rhodes is a fascinating island and steeped in history. One of the seven wonders of the ancient world is said to have straddled the harbour of Rhodes Town. The Colossus was a giant bronze statue through whose legs, ships entering the harbour had to sail.

One of the most romantic places on the island is the remote Cape Prasonisi at the southern tip of Rhodes. You’ll need a 4 x 4 to get to it as you have to cross a sand bar to get to it but you’ll experience great sunsets and lots of wild birds there.

The old town of the city of Rhodes is particularly attractive with narrow cobbled streets and buildings dating back hundreds of years. You’ll also stumble across the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes. This was the centre for the crusading knights of the island and the building was destroyed by accident in a gunpowder explosion in the 19th century before being rebuilt by the Italians.

The famous Valley of the Butterflies is worth a visit but not for the butterflies which have sadly disappeared. The valley is still very beautiful though.
